MA Fine Art 2023

The painting has become a homage to Gunther Forg (+ Barnett Newman + Agnes Martin + Sol Lewitt + Helen Frankenthaler + Hilma af Klint) reflecting upon expressionism, abstract expressionism, conceptualism, modernism and spiritualism. Clarity in form with a touch of expressionistic attitude is very important to me in this specific piece. With these subjects/ themes or concepts, size is of significance and is a big part of my investigation and expression.

The form is derived from my earlier works in previous years and a painting by Günther Förg exhibited last summer in Berlin. Its structure gives a notion of rhythm through repetition throughout the five panels.

I'm incorporating the ground in the painting to emphasize it's a painting. Using the same white color code as the gallery in the ground, I am investigating its possibility to allow the painting and gallery to encounter each other: the painting interacts with the gallery and the gallery interacts with the artwork, variably dissolving and merging.
