Lexy Liangzi Xiao

MA Fine Art 2023

Bio

Born and raised in Beijing, Lexy (also known as Xiao Liangzi) is an artist and researcher, currently based in Bergen and London. She works with alternative photographic processes, textile, and moving images, regarding photography as performance and action. She is interested in repetitive gestures, durational performance, materiality, exploring how time, perception, and repetition can produce a form of visibility and aesthetic experience.

In her project for the Bergen Kunsthall, she selected the photographic chemicals related to analogue photography as her subjects, to re-visualize, reshape and describe them, in order to finally redefine them. She has been experimenting on growing fractals and crystals from the photographic chemicals, to re-visualize the chemicals by making the silver mirroring deteriorated prints of their fractal patterns as their portraits; to reshape them into the crystals as the new physical objects, which are also the deterioration of the chemical products; to describe them by writing their names with the specific chemicals on a light sensitive photographic paper.
